Ayala Heights Reforestation: 10 Years Ago

10 years ago, when I was still in elementary school, my class had an opportunity to go on a field trip to Ayala Heights Reforestation. It was a reforestation project up in the mountains, some 15 kilometers from the city proper. The place is known today as Kan-Irag Nature Park and is home to a variety of local plants.

Leylander of My Cebu Photo Blog had a chance to visit Kan-Irag in 2008. Check out his photos then compare them with these and see if anything has changed.

These photos were taken during our field trip on November 13, 2004. Just a disclaimer: I didn’t take any of these shots. My brother did. I had to plant trees.

If time permits this year, I’d like to visit the site again and take some comparison shots. That would make for a great photo project.

  1. We used to have a mini forest in QC, adjacent to the the NAWASA, were we go bird-hunting and sometimes, simply hanging around. Peace and quiet, cool and away from the streets.

    Until Ayala Heights came along.

    • In Cebu’s case, the area was originally going to be a golf course (Ayala Heights Subdivision is just across the street, so why not?) but then the area falls under the Central Cebu Protected Landscape and houses a watershed. They developed Kan-Irag instead.

The park, and pretty much all of Ayala’s assets here, is maintained by Cebu Holdings. They seem to be pretty serious about the environment.
